a numbered farmhouse basket

When I found this basket at the thrift store it was plain and boring--but I loved it's shape and size. (Sorry I forgot to take a before pic.)

I gave it a white washing with a little paint and added some numbers using homemade stencils. (My husband and I celebrated our 16th anniversary this year!)

I think the white wash and number give it a more aged look, and adds a bit of farmhouse charm I'm going for in my home.
This basket now sits near my back door, and currently holds badminton rackets, frisbees, and tennis balls--come winter, it will hold boots.
See what paint and a little bit of your time can do?

No go forth and primp!

I have been going to just spray paint it white,

  9. That basket is exactly what I've been looking for to use as a laundry basket for our nursery. My son was even born on the 16th! Guess I need to hit up some thrift stores! Great find.

  23. i just did a basket almost identical to this one! I sprayed mine with a gray-ish paint and painted on two sets on numbers in black....the basket came from my mom's house when we moved her to assisted living and i painted the number 39 on one side and 14 on the other....which was her house number. I thought it was appropriate since it had been in her home for 40 years!

I haven't posted pics of it yet but I will be in the near future.

BTW, your basket turned out beautiful!
